Small moments keep a friendship going.
Make the plan, send the photo, or share what you’re doing right now. Not every conversation needs an occasion. Messages is designed for the small exchanges that build an ongoing relationship, whether you want to stay with a familiar chat or try a shared question that starts something new.
One conversation. Two ways in.
Your ordinary direct messages and group chats are intended to be the same conversations in Kai and Messages. Use Kai while discovering people and content, or open Messages for a more focused conversation. Choosing an app does not create a separate friendship or require everyone in the chat to make the same choice.
Share a small update with a Blip.
A Blip is a short text, emoji, or activity update shown around messages and profile presence. It is a way to say what you are doing now without composing a full Post or starting a new conversation. A small piece of everyday context can give friends a natural reason to check in.
Answer independently with Buzz.
Buzz is a planned question game inside a direct or group chat. Each person submits an answer before seeing the submitted answers. A response can name someone in the chat, include a written answer, or both. There is no required winner or agreement; the point is to hear what each person thinks.
Let a good answer become appreciation.
A meaningful Buzz response can optionally become a Shoutout: a written testimonial about someone’s character, accomplishments, or a shared experience. The recipient decides whether it appears on their public profile and can remove it later. Published Shoutouts identify their writer, so a private game does not automatically become public content.
Make temporary sharing a deliberate choice.
Drops are intended for supported text, photos, video, voice, and other content that disappears according to its viewing or expiration rules. Flash is a more specific format: an ephemeral live-camera photo taken when you send it, without gallery uploads, filters, or meaningful editing. Each gives an everyday moment a different kind of presence.
Collect something you want to keep.
Capsules are planned as intentional collections of supported messages, photos, notes, and other Kai content around a shared subject or memory. A collection can be private or shared with selected people. Saving respects the original audience and access rules; it does not silently preserve temporary content or override someone else’s decision to remove access.
Keep conversation boundaries clear.
Private and group messaging follow the people and audiences involved, with blocking, reporting, and moderation supporting account safety. A permission to read a conversation does not automatically allow the assistant to remember it, reply for you, or publish it elsewhere. The choice to communicate remains specific to what you actually want to send.
Part of Kai.
A conversation can start in Kai and continue in Messages. Spark chats stay within the private dating experience until both people choose Continue on Kai. That mutual step starts ordinary messaging without publishing dating history or bringing private compatibility information into the conversation.
Connected by choiceKai is pre-launch. This page describes the intended experience, including capabilities still in development. Availability and release timing have not been announced.
